In May 2006, the Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community
College District Tech Prep, in partnership with the Regional Allied
Health and Science Initiative (RAHSI) collaborative partners, was
awarded a grant from the Chancellor's Office/California Community
Colleges through California Senate Bill 70 (SB70). A second SB70
grant award, in addition to grants from Grossmont Healthcare District
and Girard Foundation, will sustain the project through 2009. The
funding provides support for Career Technical Education (CTE) in
community colleges, as well as CTE linkages with the K-14 system.
The list of collaborative partners is extensive and reaches countywide.
The goals of the Regional Allied Health and Science
Initiative are to: 1) Increase student awareness of health career
opportunities, 2) Improve student performance in college science
courses, and 3) Improve student performance in health occupations
training programs. Work-site learning experiences ( job shadows,
tours, summer institutes, internships) are also important components.
